Organic Pea Shoot Microgreen Seeds

Tendril peas produce the tenderest of pea shoots and can be produced throughout the year on a bright warm windowsill.  They produce a robust, tender Shoot in 10 – 21 days (depending on your climate, time of year and for how long you grow them).

Growing Tips:

  • Best grown in any container with drainage holes with a small amount of growing medium at the base.  A seed tray is equally fine.
  • Sow thinly, about a pea width between seeds and cover lightly with growing medium.  Place in a warm bright draft free location. Keep moist by standing container in water rather than watering from surface.
  • Peas shoots can be harvested from 3-5 inches high by simply cutting with scissors.

Taste:

  • Crunchy
  • Juicy
  • Sweet

Health Benefits:

High in fibre, beta carotene, folate, protein, vitamins A, B6, C, K and E, calcium, phosphorous, iron, potassium, magnesium, Thiamine, Niacin and the trace elements manganese, copper, chromium, high amounts of chlorophyll and living enzymes.

Complementary Dishes:

An excellent garnish or ingredient for most soups, meat or salad dishes, stir fry and smoothies. They can also be added to sandwiches as well as risotto, pasta and wok dishes.

FAQs
What are organic microgreen pea shoots seeds?
Organic microgreen pea shoots seeds are specially selected, non-GMO pea seeds used for growing nutritious and flavorful pea shoot microgreens. These seeds are certified organic, meaning they're grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. They produce tender, sweet-tasting shoots that are rich in nutrients and easy to grow indoors. Ideal for health-conscious consumers and home gardeners, these seeds offer a convenient way to enjoy fresh, organic greens year-round.
Are pea shoot microgreens good for you?
Yes, pea shoot microgreens are highly nutritious. They're rich in vitamins A, C, and E, as well as antioxidants and minerals like iron and zinc. These microgreens may help boost immune function, support eye health, and provide anti-inflammatory benefits. They're also a good source of protein and fiber. Incorporating pea shoot microgreens into your diet can be a delicious way to enhance your overall nutrition and well-being.
Can you use any pea seeds for microgreens?
While you can grow microgreens from various pea seeds, not all types are ideal. Seeds specifically labeled for microgreens or shoots are best, as they're selected for flavor, rapid growth, and high germination rates. Avoid treated seeds or those intended for field peas. For optimal results, choose organic microgreen pea shoots seeds, which are specifically cultivated for microgreen production and offer the best flavour and nutritional profile.
How long do pea shoot microgreens take to grow?
Pea shoot microgreens typically take 7-14 days from planting to harvest. They germinate quickly, usually sprouting within 2-3 days. The exact growing time can vary depending on environmental factors like temperature, humidity, and light. Their relatively fast growth cycle makes them a popular choice for microgreen enthusiasts. For a continuous supply, consider succession planting by starting new trays every week.
What's the best way to eat pea shoot microgreens?
Pea shoot microgreens are versatile and can be enjoyed in many ways. They're delicious raw in salads, sandwiches, and wraps, adding a sweet, fresh flavour and crisp texture. Try them as a garnish for soups, stir-fries, or omelettes. Blend them into smoothies for a nutritional boost. They can also be lightly sautéed or added to pasta dishes. For the best flavour and nutritional value, consume pea shoot microgreens fresh and raw.
How do you store harvested pea shoot microgreens?
To store harvested pea shoot microgreens, gently rinse them in cool water and pat dry with a paper towel. Place them in a plastic container lined with a slightly damp paper towel, then cover loosely with a lid. Store in the refrigerator at around 35-40°F (2-4°C). Properly stored, they can last up to a week, but for the best flavor and nutritional value, consume within 3-5 days. Avoid washing until ready to use to prevent excess moisture.
Can pea shoot microgreens be regrown after cutting?
Unlike some microgreens, pea shoot microgreens can often be regrown after cutting. When harvesting, cut the shoots about an inch above the soil level, leaving some leaves intact. With proper care, including adequate light and moisture, the remaining plant can produce a second, smaller harvest. However, the regrowth may not be as vigorous as the first. For consistent quality, it's often best to start with fresh seeds for each crop.
