Product Description

Voted as North America's best filter five times, Mountain Air Carbon Filters are durable and effective. They work by a method of adsorption (not absorption), meaning that organic molecules that cause odours and stale air stick to the carbon and are retained there, resulting in a later breakthrough point and ensuring they stay effective right up until it’s time for a new filter.

Key Features

  • Voted as North America's best filter five times
  • Ensures odourless extraction of air
  • High-quality product
  • Airflow resistance through the filter is less than 10%, resulting in a quieter filter
  • Uses the oldest form of coal on earth for carbon which has a very unique chemistry and mesoporous structure
  • Removes 99% of everything under 20 microns from the air
  • 2 to 3 years lifespan

How It Works

The key element is activated carbon. This element is all-important for its unique structure. The signature of activated carbon is its incredible amount of micro-pores. These minuscule openings of each spot of carbon make for an extensive surface area. Through this tremendous surface area and the array of pores, the filter can get a vast array of particles stuck in it. This is what happens to odours passing through the filter, they get stuck on the carbon surface where they stay trapped.

How To Use Mountain Air Carbon Filter

First, choose a filter that matches the diameter and airflow rate of the fan you will be using. Remove the plastic wrap from the outside of the drum and then fit the dust filter sleeve over the outside. This is important to collect larger particles and prolong the filter's life. Turn the duct-coupler over and replace the screws so that the duct-coupler sits firmly against the seal. Do not over-tighten.

Mount the Mountain Air Carbon Filter and connect it to your extractor fan via ducting and duct clips. Ensure everything is airtight for maximum efficiency. Once you have chosen a place for the fan and filter, ducting can be attached from the extractor fan outlet to the outside of the grow space.

FAQs
What are Mountain Air carbon filters?
Mountain Air carbon filters are high-quality air purification devices designed for indoor growing environments. They use activated carbon to effectively remove odors, pollutants, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from the air. These filters are popular among hydroponic and indoor gardeners for maintaining clean, fresh-smelling grow spaces. Mountain Air filters are known for their durability, efficient filtration, and ability to handle high air flow rates.
How do Mountain Air carbon filters work?
Mountain Air carbon filters work through adsorption. As air passes through the filter, contaminants and odour molecules stick to the surface of the activated carbon. The carbon's large surface area and porous structure trap a wide range of particles and gases. This process effectively cleanses the air, removing unwanted smells and pollutants. The filtered air that exits is clean and odor-free, helping maintain a fresh environment.
How long do Mountain Air carbon filters last?
The lifespan of a Mountain Air carbon filter typically ranges from 12 to 18 months, depending on usage and environmental conditions. Factors affecting longevity include air flow rate, humidity levels, and the concentration of contaminants in your grow space. Regular maintenance, such as proper pre-filtering and avoiding excessive moisture, can help extend the filter's life. Replace the filter when you notice a decrease in its odour-control effectiveness.
What sizes are available for Mountain Air carbon filters?
Mountain Air carbon filters come in various sizes to suit different grow room dimensions and air flow requirements. Common sizes include 4", 6", 8", and 10" diameter models, with lengths ranging from 10" to 39". The choice depends on your space size, fan capacity, and required air changes per hour. It's important to select a filter that matches your inline fan's capacity for optimal performance.
Do Mountain Air filters come with a spare sleeve?
Yes, Mountain Air carbon filters typically come with a spare pre-filter sleeve. This outer sleeve helps protect the main carbon filter from large particles and extends its lifespan. The spare sleeve allows you to replace the pre-filter when it becomes dirty, ensuring the continued efficient operation of your carbon filter. Regular cleaning or replacement of the pre-filter sleeve helps maintain optimal airflow and filtration performance.
Can Mountain Air carbon filters remove mould spores?
While Mountain Air carbon filters are primarily designed for odour control, they can help reduce mold spores in the air. The activated carbon can trap some airborne spores as air passes through the filter. However, for comprehensive mould control, it's best to use a carbon filter in conjunction with a HEPA filter. Proper ventilation and humidity control are also crucial for preventing mould growth in indoor growing environments.
How do I install a Mountain Air carbon filter?
Installing a Mountain Air carbon filter is relatively straightforward. Typically, you'll hang the filter from sturdy support using the included straps. Connect it to your inline fan, ensuring a proper seal to prevent air leaks. The filter can be installed in a "push" or "pull" configuration, depending on your setup. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions for optimal placement and airflow direction.
Are Mountain Air carbon filters quiet?
Mountain Air carbon filters themselves don't produce noise as they have no moving parts. However, the overall noise level of your ventilation system depends on the fan you use with the filter. Mountain Air filters are designed to minimize air resistance, which can help reduce fan noise. For a quieter setup, ensure proper sizing of both filter and fan, and consider using a speed controller with your fan.
