Japanese Pepper Tree 50cm - 1057

The Japanese pepper indoor bonsai has uniquely shaped round leaves which are glossy and grow close together, as well as thorns on the stems. It is deciduous and will produce small greenish-yellow flowers, followed by tiny, red berries. The peppercorn-like fruits are sometimes used to make a hot spice.

This elegant Japanese pepper bonsai tree is standing at approximately 50cm tall in a blue glazed ceramic oriental pot with a depth of 30cm and width of 30cm. This Japanese pepper has a twisting trunk and lovely, full foliage.

Placement:

Keep the Japanese pepper indoors. Your tree should not experience drops in temperature below 10 °C and requires temperatures of around 16-23 °C to thrive. Being a tropical species, the pepper tree requires consistent warm temperatures.

Watering and feeding:

They must be watered generously as soon as the top inch of soil gets dry. Do not let the soil dry out fully and avoid constant wetness. See our watering guide.
Only feed periodically during the growing season (March-Oct).

Pruning and wiring:

The Japanese pepper tree grows very fast in spring and summer under the right conditions and will need pruning. For more mature or bigger branches, the wood is hard so you will require concave scissors for cutting thick branches.
You can wire the pepper tree throughout the year. Take care that the branches do not snap as they tend to be a little hard and less bendy than other species.

Repotting:

Repot in early spring with a well-draining bonsai soil mix.

Find our repotting guide here.
