Pumps

Pumps

Almost every grower will use either an air or water pump on a daily basis for their grow, I know I do.  I use air pumps for aerating my water tanks and for bubbling my compost teas.  I use submersible water pumps to pump compost tea to feed all of my plants.

Weather you use a water pump as part of a hydroponic system (perfect for NFT systems or RDWCs), or if you use an air pump to bubble your compost tea, or if you are aerating your nutrient tank, pumps are a key part of hydroponics that nurture plant health. Hyjo offers a very good selection of new products as in air pumps, air stones, water pumps and all the accessories you will need for your setup.

Choosing the correct air pumps to suit your hydroponic system is very important as some pumps / compressors can be very noisy.  If you live in an apartment and you have an air compressor running 24 / 7 your neighbours will be wondering what you’re up to and you don’t want that!  In addition, Hyjo checks that their pumps are designed for reliability so that growers may utilize the functionality accordingly.

In my opinion, the best pumps feature a magnetic drive for high performance and low power consumption (basically everyday use) like the Hailea 9810 and 9820.  These range of pumps are super quiet and both do an amazing job. If you’re using a RDWC system, then you’re probably using the Charles Austen pumps which are also very good.

I would advise to stay away from the very cheap air pumps in growing systems as they are a waste of time and do a poor job at aerating anything.

Hyjo offers aeration starter kits for tanks & reservoirs that have been put together by experts to make your life easier.  These kits include everything you will need like air pumps & manifolds, air stones & fittings, air pipes & valves to complement your grow room or tent.

You will also need the right air stone to suit your hydroponic's air pump. It’s pointless running a large air compressor with a golf ball type air stone on the end since it’s over kill.  I like using the Hailea round disc ceramic air stones since they do a really good job and come in various sizes depending on your growing system needs.

The size of pump and air stone you need will all depend on the size of your nutrient tank.  The bigger the hydroponic tank, the bigger the pump and air stone…

I use submersible water pumps every day to pump compost tea to feed my plants, I use the Aqua King Q2007.  I’ve found this product to be a very good and a reliable pump due to its jet flow, power and control. Not to mention, NFTs use water pumps for hydroponic water tank circulation.  Hyjo offers a huge range of water pumps to suit any hydro circumstance, most especially for feeding your crop the necessary nutrients and boosters.  Take my advice on board and stay away from cheap water pumps because they do not move high volumes of water at relatively low pressure.

It’s important to use the right high jet water pump that matches your grow setup.  If you are growing in a 1.2 x 1.2-meter grow tent with four plants on a drip irrigation system with a small distance to pump your nutrients, then you will only require a small water pump to address your needs. It’s always advisable to ask a friendly member of staff at Hyjo for advice.

It’s important to never let submersible water pumps run dry.  In other words, you always want to have the pump submerged in water or you will damage the jet pump.

Hyjo offers all the air and hydroponic water pump accessories you will ever need for a grow room.  From airline pipe, to multiway manifolds, to non-return valves and much more.
